Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Hi! This is our privacy policy, and if you landed here, you want to learn how we process your data at coolsocks.co.uk and how we protect your privacy. We won’t let you down!

Essential information we collect

In operating our store, we need to capture some information about your device, such as your IP address and information related to your visit when you browse our store. For example, this might include a time stamp, the last page or product you visited, and the indication that you logged in. We do that too:

  • remember who you are after you log in so that you do not need to authenticate at each click;
  • monitor if our website is running with the high performance we are dedicated to providing;
  • let you browse between products without having to start back from the home page at each click;
  • remember, if you put something in your shopping cart before you decide to checkout; and
  • control that your data is processed securely.

We call the information mentioned above “essential information” and collect it through cookies. Cookies are small text files that most websites use. A website places cookies in the web browser and then reads the information collected through the cookies every time the user acts. We use cookies. Without enabling this mechanism and this kind of cookies (first-party cookies), we could not provide you with the smooth experience you expect while navigating.

Order information you expressly provide

We would like more specific information about you if you buy something from our store. To fully process your order and ship the merchandise you selected, we need your data, including your first and last name, email address, and shipping and billing address. We also use your contact and order information to inform you about processing your order. We will ask you to provide this information on our “checkout page” before letting you finalise your purchase with the payment.

Accounts

You can sign up for an account if you’d like. This will make us happy because it confirms your interest in our store. It should also make you happy because we will remember your information, and when you decide to buy our products, you do not have to provide all of your information over again -- you have to log in. Before registering your account, we will ask you to express your consent to this privacy policy. Only if you give us your permission will we open your account. We also offer you the possibility to withdraw your consent and delete your account quickly. Just connect with us at the contact details at the bottom of the page  sales@coolsocks.co.uk

Partial Purchases

If you have started to buy one of our products but have yet to complete the purchase, you may have provided partial information, such as your email. In that case, we might send you an email to remind you about your interest. If you are not comfortable receiving further emails of this kind, we will give you a simple opportunity to opt-out. Your privacy means a lot to us, and we will stop sending you these communications immediately.

Reviews

If you have completed a purchase, we will send you an email to ask you to review the product you bought. We want to ensure that you can share your opinion with other customers, whether you love your purchase or have a complaint.

Personalisation

We also use specific information related to your visit, such as the timestamp of your visit, the page or the product you viewed, and where you are coming from (if you came to our store because you clicked on an advertisement or you just opened our direct link). This is very similar to the “essential information,” but we use it to provide you with a personalised experience. The information on your visit provides insights into your interests and allows us to send you relevant communications. We capture this information through cookies, called a "beacon," that we will enable you to block.

COOKIE POLICY FOR COOL SOCKS LTD

What are Cookies?
As is common practice with almost all professional websites, this site uses cookies, and tiny files downloaded to your computer to improve your experience. This page describes what information they gather, how we use it and why we sometimes need to store these cookies. We will also share how you can prevent these cookies from being stored. However, this may downgrade or 'break' certain elements of the site's functionality. You can see the Wikipedia article on HTTP Cookies if you would like more general cookie information.

How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for a variety of reasons detailed above. Unfortunately, in most cases, there are no industry standard options for disabling cookies without completely disabling the functionality and features they add to this site. Therefore, it is recommended that you leave on all cookies if you are wondering whether you need them or not in case they are used to provide a service that you use.

Disabling Cookies
You can prevent the setting of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser (see your browser Help for how to do this). However, please remember that disabling cookies will affect the functionality of this and many other websites you visit. Disabling cookies will usually disable certain functionality and features of this site. Therefore, it is recommended that you do not disable cookies.

THE COOKIES WE SET

If you create an account with us, we will use cookies to manage the signup process and general administration. These cookies will usually be deleted when you log out; however, they may sometimes remain afterwards to remember your site preferences when logged out. We use cookies when you are logged in to recognise this fact. This prevents you from having to log in every single time you visit a new page. These cookies are typically removed or cleared when you log out to ensure that you can only access restricted features and areas when logged in.

This site offers newsletter or email subscription services, and cookies may be used to remember if you are already registered and whether to show certain notifications which might only be valid to subscribed/unsubscribed users.

This site offers e-commerce or payment facilities, and some cookies are essential to ensure that your order is remembered between pages so that we can process it properly.

When you submit data through a form such as those found on contact pages or comment forms, cookies may be set to remember your user details for future correspondence. To provide a great experience on this site, we provide the functionality to set your preferences for how it runs when you use it. To remember your preferences, we need to set cookies so that this information can be called whenever you interact with a page affected by your preferences.

THIRD-PARTY COOKIES

In some exceptional cases, we also use cookies provided by trusted third parties. The following section details which third-party cookies you might encounter through this site. This site uses Google Analytics which is one of the most widespread and trusted analytics solutions on the web, to help us to understand how you use the site and ways that we can improve your experience. For example, these cookies may track how long you spend on the site and the pages you visit so we can continue producing engaging content. Please look at the official Google Analytics page for more information on Google Analytics cookies.

From time to time, we test new features and make subtle changes to how the site is delivered. When we are still trying new features, these cookies may be used to ensure that you receive a consistent experience whilst on the site whilst ensuring we understand which optimisations our users appreciate the most.

As we sell products, we need to understand statistics about how many of the visitors to our site make a purchase, and as such, this is the kind of data that these cookies will track. This is important to you as it means that we can accurately make business predictions that allow us to monitor our advertising and product costs to ensure the best possible price.

The Google AdSense service we use to serve advertising uses a DoubleClick cookie to serve more relevant ads across the web and limit the number of times that a given ad is shown to you. You can see the official privacy FAQ if you want more information on Google AdSense.

Sometimes, we provide you custom content based on what you tell us about yourself directly or indirectly by linking a social media account. These cookies allow us to provide you with content that interests you. We also use social media buttons and plugins on this site that will enable you to connect with your social network in various ways. For these to work, the following social media sites, including; Facebook, will set cookies through our site, which may be used to enhance your profile on their site or contribute to the data they hold for various purposes outlined in their respective privacy policies.

We use a third-party service provider to serve ads on our behalf across the Internet. They may collect anonymous information about your visits to our Web site and your interaction with our products and services. They may also use information about your visits to this and other Web sites to target advertisements for goods and services. This anonymous information is collected through a pixel tag, which is industry standard technology used by most major websites. No personally identifiable information is collected or used in this process. They do not know the user's name, phone number, address, email address, or any personally identifying information. You can also read more about online marketing practices and the technologies that support them by visiting the Your Online Choices website.

MORE INFORMATION

Hopefully, that has clarified things for you. However, if you are still looking for more information, please contact us through one of our preferred contact methods.

Other uses of personal data

MARKETING PERMISSIONS

Suppose you sign up for our subscriber lists. In that case, Cool Socks will send you occasional special offers and promotions by email (usually a maximum of three emails a year) if you wish to refrain from receiving any further email messages from us (and we quite understand if you don't, but remember that if you unsubscribe, we will not be able to send you Sales details before anyone else). We use Mailchimp as an external vendor for email marketing, and you can view their privacy policy by clicking on their name.

You can also unsubscribe via the link on every marketing email we send.

How do we process your information?

We use an external provider to run our store, BigCommerce. BigCommerce is based in the US, participates in the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework, and is committed to providing best-in-class service and data protection. You can check its participation in the Privacy Shield here on the official site of The International Trade Administration (ITA), U.S. Department of Commerce.

Payment: Our store is PCI-DSS compliant (a stringent industry standard with requirements for the security of credit card information), but we want to use accredited companies to process your credit card information. We use PayPal and Stripe– to review their privacy and security policies. Click on their name.

Partnering with highly specialised external companies lets us focus on what we do best: selling great products.

How can you control your data?

Suppose you are one of our customers in the EU, and we are specifically selling our products to the Member State where you are located. In that case, you have specific rights that we are honoured to enforce without undue delay: Access, Correct, Erasure, Port, and Object. If you cannot exercise your choice on your account page or if you don't have an account with us, please contact us at the contact details at the bottom of this page. We will be more than happy to help.

How long do we keep your data?

We keep your data for as long as you have an account. We also keep some data for security investigation. But, most importantly, we have specific obligations for fraud detection and tax reasons. So, we might need to keep detailed data even if you'd like to delete it.

Do we have any legal obligations when handling your data?

Many. We might need to share your personal information to comply with our legal obligations for each financial year-end by law.

Who can you reach out to for privacy matters?

You can contact our Data Protection Officer here:

Susan Hutchinson  sue@coolsocks.co.uk

Would you like to complain?

If you have any privacy complaint, you have the right to complain to our supervisory authority.

Any update?

Suppose we update our Privacy Policy to reflect a change or improvement of our services or a new legal obligation. In that case, we will publish the latest version on our website and make it clear on our home page and www.coolsocks.co.uk so it will be visible as you enter our store.
